Parish Profile: Discernment for Transition
Introduction
The Diocese of North Carolina asks parishes to answer nine narrative questions as part of the search for a new rector. The questions are designed to elicit qualitative information that gives insight into the true essence of the parish. These nine questions and our answers are presented here.
The Search Committee answered these questions after hearing from the congregation in meetings exploring what we love about St. Peter’s and our hopes for the next chapter. Every answer from every participant, from 4-year-olds to those more than 90 years old, is available on the search page of our web site.
Clergy who are seeking new positions and may want to apply for the job at St. Peter’s also answer the same narrative questions. This helps the Diocese find potential matches for us and helps us evaluate candidates in a more qualitative way early in the screening process.
Our toughest task was paring down all the terrific input and trying to capture our wonderful spirit on paper. The following answers came out of that process. No single document, no matter how lengthy, can accurately depict the true heart and soul of St. Peter’s, but we hope these answers will give applicants a glimpse of who we are. Our answers, and those of the applicants, are only the beginning of the deeper discernment conversations as we move forward.
